Rainbow Month- The epic conclusion!

Hey everyone. Most of you have seen my previous post concerning Rainbow Month, and I'd just like to announce that the occasion has ended. It won't be until next year that this tradition comes around again, but I'll certainly be there when it does come alive- hopefully by another user willing to carry on the rainbow torch that has affected many so deeply.

Well anyway- the turn out was AMAZING for the 2nd annual Rainbow month! I've been keeping track over the month, and I spotted a total of one hundred and seventeen (117) users with a rainbow avatar at some point during the event! That's the best turnout for ANY event so far. There was also about thirty-eight (38) users who kept the rainbow avatar for the entirety of the month- So "HUZZAH!" to those that were that dedicated.

Well everyone, I hope you've all enjoyed this as much as I have- see you all next year!

A Quest for Idle (review)

A Quest for Idle is an idle game. Idle games are games that are played while doing other stuff (checking e-mail, being on forums, etc.), and the purpose of these games is that you get more items, experience, points or something similar the more time you have been "playing" it. AQfI (A Quest for Idle) is a different idle game, you're a knight and you must defeat opponents (other knights and animals) to get more experience. The more experience you get, the higher level you are. You can buy swords, potions, powders and even new haircuts which make this game more fun to play. There are also 5 in-game badges and high-scores which make you want to play it more time than any other game for a while.

Now I'll start with the review of MainFrame_Games' Game.

Gameplay: The whole point of idle games is to not play it, but do other stuff while having the tab with the idle game on. But if you play it, it's quite enjoyable as you can buy stuff depending on how much money you have won. But if you watch how your knight fights, it's like watching a nice animation video from a video sharing site; the animation of the knight fighting is not bad, as there isn't any blood or cuts. The fight between you and the opponent is a very well elaborated turn-based battle. 0.8 (out of 1).

Graphics: The graphics have been very well done by the developer. He made it in a cartoony way and has not drawn much, yet it's nice. Just with hair, shield, sword, eye and armor he has made them simple yet awesome. The knight's armor, sword and eyes have been very well created and seem kind of real. Also, the potions, powders, font's text and everything else are good. Very appealing graphics. 0.9.

Difficulty: It's not difficult, if these sort of games were, no-one would play them. All you must do is check it once in a while, save progress and if you can, buy new items (especially sword). But it will be difficult if you waste your money on useless stuff, obviously, so try to save up for swords. 0.8.

Sounds: I have to say that this game doesn't have any music or sounds at all... It would be nice if it had peaceful forrest music when you're knight's walking (this game is based in a forrest) and war music when they battle. I would also like it more if it had sound effects when you hit your opponent, but it doesn't, so I have to downrate this section. But, you must also think in the idle way, you're listening to music online or something, but that won't make it much better. 0.1.

Replayability: Its replayability is very high, as players really like to achieve high-scores and the in-game badges too. Once you play it once, it's almost guaranteed that you'll play it yet again and again. It can be repetitive at some points, and you may think at sometime that the prices of sowrds are very overrated, but you just get on with it. But sadly there is one day that you just forget about the game for a long while and you don't play it again... 0.8.

Total rating for this game...: AQfI in general is a very very good game. You'll really enjoy it for a while. If you have ever played Idlekips you'll like this one much more. I'm enjoying this game a lot at the moment and I hope you like it too! My rating: 3.4 out of 5. (average rating of Kongregate as of 27.09.09: 3.26 out of 5)

Epic Week, Day 3: Seed of Destruction

Seed of Destruction is today's epic game. What's more epic than a cowboy riding around on a sperm cell? I give this an 8/10 on the epic scale.

Guide:

Level 1: Just ram some people close to the ground, since that's all there is to attack. (Score 500 points for next level)
Level 2: Make sure you dodge the attacks of the helicopters (I found it best just to ram into them), as well as attack some people below. (Score 6,000 points for next level)
Level 3: Same as before, but now there's jets and army soldiers. To get the jets, get one to follow you, and bust a sudden u-turn to ram him. Make sure you avoid the bazookas in the process of this. (Score 20,000 points for next level)
Level 4: I just hovered around the top-most part and deflected down grenades/missles while defeating airborne enemies. Since you can't destroy tanks from up close, getting them from a distance is the best bet.. (Score 50,000 points for next level)
Level 5: I found it easy just to go off-screen and make the zeppelin hit itself. After destroying a few of those, you'll have the achievement in no time.

Epic Week, Day 2: Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar Guide

Probably the most epic of all games- Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar is the second game of epic week. Although this game is SO easy- here's a guide for it.

(I recommend watching it on Youtube- with annotations)

Epic Week, Day 1: Ultimate Crab Battle Guide

I'm going to try to make a guide for every game badged on epic week the day that game gets badges. The first contender is Ultimate Crab Battle, a game I would rate 5/10 on the 'epic-scale'.

Enter Traud: Interview with Gevock

Madame, monsieur, bonswa. My name is Traud. This will be my debut on the KCG. I am proud to be a contributing writer to this esteemed establishment. For my debut, I chose to interview Kongregate's own Gevock! I hope you enjoy this Q&A session as much as Gevock and I enjoyed collaborating on it!

Q: To start off, is there anything you’d like to tell us about your online or offline self? Introduce yourself!

Well I'm Gevock. I shoot guns, make flash games that I would never post on here, fly planes on occasion, and I am absorbed by all things chemistry and biology. On Kong I'm just your average stalker, egotist, bigot, etc. I tend to keep to about 4-5 rooms. Oh, and I own manic....MANIC FOR LIFE!!!

What’s your favorite flash game? Why?

I really love too many games to count, but if I had to narrow it down, I'd say anything done by the author Krinn. His flash making skills are godly.

What is a really underrated game here on Kongregate that you would like to share with us?

The Great War of Prefectures (http://www.kongregate.com/games/ZigZaGame/the-great-war-of-prefectures). I fell in love with this game and got addicted straight away. Most people have never heard of it though.

What kind of games, if any, do you play on consoles or handhelds, or even flash, outside of Kongregate?

I've always had a knack for First Person Shooter games and Strategy games. I'll play anything competitive though.

What do you find in a good game?

That spark of originality that only a few people really have. Things like that make a game amazingly awesome

There seems to be a bit of controversy on UPGRADE COMPLETE! It’s near the very top, but some argue that it deserves far less attention because of its focus on, well, upgrading and not as much on actual gameplay. What are your views?

Honestly, go cry in a hole whoever thinks it's not good. Games are meant to be entertaining and fun, not to fit to your criteria of what a game is or isn't.

Which hard badge did you first acquire? Do you remember the particular situation at the time?

Alive Monsters Badge from the game Sonny. I think I got it cause the glitch, but I didn't know any better I WAS JUST A WEE NEWB!

What would you say about the community here at Kongregate?

It's pretty much a solid blend of raving horny preteens who have pics of themselves posing the "myspace" pose or shirtless when they really shouldn't be (flab for the lose), idiots who come on and relieve their frustrations by being...well idiots when they could be having a better time getting to know people, the silent ones that you never (EVER) see talk, and the great people that you may not remember in 20 years but they're still great friends.

Are there any neat, ongoing community activities you’d like to share?

lolwut? I mean we have the random rave party here and there, but that's about it I think. Oh, we also have our mandatory "Express you loving feelings toward sakuya" 15 minutes.

Why do you think the Kongregate administration chose you to become a member of the moderation team?

Cause I didn't think about being a mod, but rather, had fun and made friends.

What are some valuable services you provide to Kongregate?

Psh, Kong provides me with the valuable services (If you know what I mean *cough* AC *cough*)

How did you feel when you first got modded?

Conflicted, I didn't like the constant attention, but I learned to afk when people bug me.

Why did you accept being a mod?

Meh, I figured that since our only mod lived in England and had only been a mod for 2 days, I'd help during the afternoons and evenings.

Okay. So take us through a day in the life of a mod.

"HOW I BE MOD" "MAKE ME MOD NAO" "*SPAM SPAM SPAM*" Then you have your occasional sexy party. That's 'bout it actually.

I’ve noticed from numerous threads in the Kongregate section that many people aspire to become moderators in the future. Any tips?

Just realize that you are better off just having fun and make friends with the people in your room. They might not be mods, but they aren't completely powerless in helpin' you out.

What are your views on personal privacy on this site?

Your privacy? Lol, you really think you can hide your life from me? BWAHAHA I know where you live Traud. And I *will* traud on you.

What’s your favorite movie or series of movies?

Definitely the Die Hard series or the Dirty Harry Series

Do you listen to music? If so, what kind?

Who doesn't listen to music...? I love anything and everything. Give me rap, give me metal, give me classical, give me Aerosmith, hell give me some techno if you think I'll like it.

What do you think of the forums on Kongregate?

Well. I like OT for some of the randomness, but you guys get out of hand quickly. SD, you people scare me from posting. Music: Enough of "This metal is best metal!!1!1!one" threads, they're annoying. Kongregate forum: Meh, it has stuff and fun contests once in a while. Everything else, I don't go to or look at daily.

What other websites do you frequent? Are there any websites or just cool bookmarks you’d like to share with us?

I'll admit I do go to Newgrounds some, but that's just for the animations and tutorial section. As for some of my bookmarks, they may not be appropriate for the younger people reading this.

What are some offline hobbies you have?

Reading, shooting fruit, being a pirate, riding my bike when my car is low on gas, and flying planes when I can.

Are there any pressing, global issues you’d like to raise awareness about?

What is this, my AP Poli Sci class? No, I am too hedonistic to care what is going wrong around me ;)

What’s your favorite fantasy creature (vampire, werewolf, cockatrice, minotaur, etc.)? Why?

Daemonic Faeries. If I say something different, Aerys will murder me.

As a new writer, I'd highly appreciate comments and suggestions! Contact me or Gevock through Kongregate or me through email!

Castle Crashing "The Beard" Guide

I finally managed to conquer those Castle Crashing "The Beard" badges- so here's my video of how to do it.

The Strategy:
1: As the level starts, stand on the middle left platform dodging his attacks. After the second attack, head to the platform to the left, and continue to hit him until he does hit "lazer eyes" attack. If you need to move around to prevent getting hit, do so. After he does the first lazer attack, get into a position so that he can't hit you with the second attack, and strike him as many times as you can.
2: Repeat this strategy, but on the right side of the map.
3: Repeat steps 1 & 2 until he turns into a skull.
4: When he's a skull, head toward the left-most platform. Wait for him to head towards you, and once he gets within your attacking range, attack him as much as you can. When he drifts away to do his fireball attack, head to the rightmost platform.
5: Do the same thing as step 4, only on the right side of the map.
6: Repeat steps 4 & 5 until you defeat him.

As you can see, I took about 3 minutes to defeat him- which is good considering that you need to do it in under 4 minutes for the hard badge. If you are able to combo-up your attacks just right, you may be about to do it in under 2 minutes.

Epic Week! (Buried Treasure Week 2)

Greg announced on the forums that this week, starting tomorrow, will be "Epic Week!". He calls it the new Buried Treasure week although it isn't official, and there won't be special challenges or even a banner. BUT there will be badges every single day this week! That's right, starting tomorrow with Toss the Turtle, a new game will be given badges every single day. Since there's so many events going on right now, I really won't make a section on the side for this, but just keep it in mind.

Mombasa Month: ODST Orbital Challenge

"Oorah!"

Microsoft has yet again, sponsored Kongregate- only this time it's different. The entire MONTH will have 4 tickets, being called "Mombasa Month" (1 per week). Each ticket gives you a chance to win one of five "Halo 3: ODST" game copies for that week, along with an entry for the grand prize- An Xbox 360 Elite and a Mitsubishi - 60" HDTV! So altogether, there's 20 prizes to be given out, and 1 humongous grand prize. Going through the acronym ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), each week's ticket will be named accordingly. (Check Rules and Eligibility)

This week's ticket challenge is in the infamous Storm the House 3. To get the ticket from the "Oribital Challenge", you just have to survive for 60 seconds, on normal difficulty in Capture the Flag. The simplest way to do this, is to spend all of your money on shooters, and do nothing. You'll survive far more than the designated time with this simple method.

Jeez, is it me, or are there more ticket's lately than the Duggars? Regardless- I'll post whatever knowledge I can pass to you young grasshoppers when next week's ticket is out. But for now, Adieu.

The 9 Challenge Walkthrough and 9 Secret Words REVEALED!

You apocalyptic-world lovers are in for a special treat with the latest double-challenge present by Kongregate. The first part of the challenge is called "The 9 Challenge", which earns you the nifty little ticket shown on the left. The ticket enters you in the sweepstakes- so go to the Rules and Eligibility page to make sure you're able to enter, and to check out the prizes. To complete this challenge, you just have to make it to the genator in the game "Little Wheel"- a simple point n' click adventure-puzzle game. If you would like a walkthrough for the game, ahkong.net has create a very easy to use one- it should only take you 3 minutes to complete the game.

The second part of the challenge is called "The 9 Secret Words Challenge". This challenge will earn you 54 points for finding all 5 words hidden across the profiles provided in the challenge info page. If you are are a bit stuck on finding the words, carefully examine the profiles- that's my only hint. Most users are enjoying finding out the words on their own- but if you're a sore-loser who wants the answers handed to them, here you go:

Despite is saying you need to "Right-Click"- you just click it normally.

Well, I hope I help you guys out a bit with these two challenges- They earn you a nice sum of points in the end. Happy gaming!

Review for Canabalt

I have done a review for the game Canabalt by AdamAtomic. I'm going to break down the good and the bad of this game. So here we are with my review of Canabalt.
Gameplay: 4.5/5 This is the kind of game where you can spend 2 or 3 hours playing it and not get bored. The game is random every time, so you'll never know what to expect. The concept of the game is very simple, but this is not at all a bad thing. The only thing you have to do in this game is jump and try to avoid objects laying about. As you go longer not hitting the objects, you gain speed. Gaining too much speed is a bad thing, though. One of the only things I didn't like about this game is that windows spawn below you quite often, so it is impossible to break through them. I also didn't like the controls. To jump you have to press X or C. Those are the weirdest choices for buttons ever. Alternatively, you can use the spacebar, but obviously X and C were meant to be used.
Graphics: 4/5 The artwork in this game is very simple, yet very appealing. I never thought I would enjoy seeing so many colorless pixels. I like how the color scheme of greys and blacks sort of describes the mood of the game.
Difficulty: 3/5 I don't really know what to say about the difficulty, because it's really a luck-based game. You never know when there will be a window that's too low, and you never know when you should slow down or not.
Sounds: 5/5 The sounds in this game are fantastic. You can hear everything from the breaking of glass, destructions of buildings, and even simply birds flying away. There's too many different types of sounds to name them all. Good music helps out a bit also.
Replayability: 5/5 You never know what will happen next when you play this game. Windows and giant bombs spawn randomly everywhere when you don't expect them. This is a really good game for playing over and over again and still have lots of fun with it.
Overall: 4.5/5 Canabalt is an all-round great game. There's just something missing to it, though I don't know what. This game isn't good enough for a 5/5, but it's definately better than 4/5. If you havn't played this game yet, I highly reccomend that you do so.

3 Writers Removed. Slots opening Up!

KCG had to remove 3 writers today. While the reasons are private, and should not be publicly discussed, the writers are Sabercow, Juze, and quake. They were great assets to the team, but for various reasons, they're time on the team is over. You are always welcome to send them a "You were a great KCG writer, and will be missed." whisper, or something along those lines.

For the 'good' news, there are currently 2 positions available to create guides. Scroll down to the Job Openings! section of the page for more details.

All the best,

Join Rainbow Month!

Ahh- Kongregate tradition. Whether it be participating in "Greg Month" or "Boxxy Avatar Week", we all have that golden time period that we will never forget.

September 9th, 2008: The first Rainbow Avatar Week was created.
September 16th, 2008: Rainbow Avatar Week was changed to Rainbow Avatar MONTH for being so epic.
September 3rd, 2009: Rainbow Avatar Month is brought back my yours truly-

And here we are now. Reminiscing about the epic lulz brought to the forums last year, as this year's Rainbow Worshippers undust their "Change Avatar" buttons in preparation for uber rainbowness.

So now you're probably wondering- "How do I participate in Rainbow Avatar Month?", or "Are you clinically insane for carrying on this bizarre tradition?". Well the answer to those questions is "No".- Well, the first one can be found in this thread, but you know what I mean. D:

Incase your computer is hyperlink-tarded, you basically "rainbow-fy" your avatar. Now, there's 3 ways you can come about doing this. The first is to make a request thread for it in the art forums (Not-Recommended.), the second is to go out and do it yourself (Not Recommended.), and the third, the only FDA, FBI, CSI, LUL, approved method is to head over to Hokage's Rainbow Avatar Request Thread and make your request NOAW!

Now that you have absorbed this wisdom, young grasshopper, you can enjoy your beautiful Friday afternoon pimpin' avatar. Have a happy rainbow month!

Oh yeah, Do not judge my art ability from the poorly drawn banner- Here are some art sample that I've already made for users:

Amazing Badge Recommender.

I was browsing through the forums today when I stumbled upon a thread directing your attention to MetAward, a site that tracks various achievements on many sites. Apparently, Kongregate's acheivements are on this site, and you can check all of your badges, as well as which badges are recommended for you based on difficulty. If you type in this URL, changing the username at the end to your own, you will see all of your badge details:

http://metaward.com/http://kongregate.com/accounts/hokage4354

Now, to make things interesting, you can even check which badges you don't have, in order of difficulty. The easiest badges will be at the beginning of the list, with the hard ones toward the end. (Change username at the end like you did above)

http://metaward.com/alias/recommended/http://kongregate.com/accounts/hokage4354

Amazing, right!? But that's not all- there's even a chart displaying all of your badge names, descriptions, image URL's, game URL's, point worth, and more. (Same URL changing)

http://metaward.com/alias/table/http://kongregate.com/accounts/hokage4354

Just thought that'd be an interesting thing to share with you guys- thanks for reading.

Vox Populi, Vox Dei Walkthrough - And a letter of apoligy.

Hello everyone, as you may of noticed this is my first post in about 2 months. I'm sorry for this. Here is my video for completing the game:

And finally, my letter of apology. I don't post enough here to be a good enough member of this site. I'm afraid I must quit my position and give it to someone who will be willing to be a much better poster than me. I'm sorry for the trouble. This is my final post here, farewell.

Hokage is back in business!

Alrighty guys- good ole' hokage is back here on KCG, on Kongregate, and on the Internet as a whole, and will not fail you guys again. My computer had some problems, and it took an annoyingly miserable 20 days for me to finally make my computer usable. I'm pretty sure you've read the previous post on KCG about hipcheck getting married, and him being away for about just as long. While we really try to avoid these occurrences, they're just unavoidable at times. So now that we're back in action, I can assure you that we will have more guides, reviews, interviews, and maybe even some new writers in store for you guys. Thanks for reading this small update- and I hope you keep checkin' in on KCG.

The One and Only,

Warefare 1944

Here are two vids by our favorite level 65 guide maker Tasselfoot. He shows unique ways of beating all 8 campaign missions. This will get you all of the badges your heart desires for this game.

Back in the saddle

Hey everyone,
As some of you may or may not know, I got married mid July of this year. I have done a terrible job with keeping up with the site for various reasons. I did not have internet at home until recently. But now I have a bit more time on my hands to get back on track. I will be going through the writers list this week and doing some late Spring cleaning. I haven't been very strict about my 1-2 articles a week rule but I will now enforce it to make this site lively again. This also means I may start looking at new writers. I also have school coming up soon as well but I do promise that things are going to pick up pace some. So bear with us as we undergo some much needed changes.

Raider: Episode 2 Review

So here we go, the review of the long awaited sequel of Raider, a popular, and difficult platformer made by pseudolonewolf, famous for creating the legendary Mardek series. Reviews on Raider 2 have been totally mixed - either people love it or they hate it! Here I'll breakdown what pseudolonewolf did right - and wrong - with Raider 2, and why you might want to try it out, or skip it completely.

Gameplay - 9/10 The gameplay was the most important aspect of the game, and why you'll ever love it or hate it. Right of the bat it's very, very difficult. In each section there is something - whether it's a spike, some lava, or a giant walking beast - out there to hurt you. The game is mostly composed of precision jumping, dodging/fighting enemies and and climbing your way through the game, and if you aren't somebody willing to restart and try again, than this game isn't really for you. Giving it a 10/10 or 9/10 would be unfair to the many games turned off by it's difficulty, and the numerous vine-to-vine jumps where you're barely missing spikes, so I'm going to go ahead and give it an 8.5.

Graphics - 10/10 The graphics could have been a little more advanced, but then that would defeat the purpose of pseudolonewolf's famous pixel simplicity. The way he set things up, from the color scheme to the overall presentation, was very pleasing. He portrayed the characters perfectly, without compromising his simple, pixelated look one bit. Overall, the graphics were pretty great.

Difficulty - 9/10 This is the real tricky part when reviewing Raider: Episode 2. Many people simply ragequitted Raider: Episode 2 because of it's difficulty, and others gave up gradually because they just didn't enjoy all of the precision jumping. I honestly think the real problem with this game that turned people off wasn't it's difficulty, but the way it was presented. It's very hard to make a good difficult game, and pseudolonewolf did this amazingly, but there were still parts that could have been toned down in difficulty rather than the opposite.

Sounds - 10/10 The music and sounds of Raider: Episode 2 was one of the most enjoyable and redeeming aspects of the game that bated you to continue playing. Pseudolonewolf - being a great composer - makes some of the greatest music in flash games, and Raider: Episode 2 was no exception.

Replayability - 6.5/10 This is where Raider: Episode 2 takes it big hit. After completing the game, which despite being difficult is still pretty short - there isn't much else to do than to try for the other relics, or try it on another difficulty. I think a point system, or the addition of more relics would do the game very good. Hopefully the sequels he makes will be better in replayability, as that is where this takes it's one big hit, in my opinion.

Overall - 88/100 Raider: Episode 2 was an amazing game, that only feel short slightly on certain things. It really depends on your taste if you'll like Raider 2, but I recommend it greatly if you haven't already tried it out. The Raider series is really a very strong series, and I'm looking forward to the sequels!

Play it here!
