Spooks, Goons, and Screams- Halloween on Kongregate!

What IS Kongregate doing for Halloween?

Well, unlike previous years, Kongregate will not be having a special banner (Aww!). Instead, they were sponsored by the makers "Left 4 Dead 2", and have a special "Survivors VS Zombies" event. Read more about it here.

Rainbow Month- The epic conclusion!

Hey everyone. Most of you have seen my previous post concerning Rainbow Month, and I'd just like to announce that the occasion has ended. It won't be until next year that this tradition comes around again, but I'll certainly be there when it does come alive- hopefully by another user willing to carry on the rainbow torch that has affected many so deeply.

Well anyway- the turn out was AMAZING for the 2nd annual Rainbow month! I've been keeping track over the month, and I spotted a total of one hundred and seventeen (117) users with a rainbow avatar at some point during the event! That's the best turnout for ANY event so far. There was also about thirty-eight (38) users who kept the rainbow avatar for the entirety of the month- So "HUZZAH!" to those that were that dedicated.

Well everyone, I hope you've all enjoyed this as much as I have- see you all next year!

A Quest for Idle (review)

A Quest for Idle is an idle game. Idle games are games that are played while doing other stuff (checking e-mail, being on forums, etc.), and the purpose of these games is that you get more items, experience, points or something similar the more time you have been "playing" it. AQfI (A Quest for Idle) is a different idle game, you're a knight and you must defeat opponents (other knights and animals) to get more experience. The more experience you get, the higher level you are. You can buy swords, potions, powders and even new haircuts which make this game more fun to play. There are also 5 in-game badges and high-scores which make you want to play it more time than any other game for a while.

Now I'll start with the review of MainFrame_Games' Game.

Gameplay: The whole point of idle games is to not play it, but do other stuff while having the tab with the idle game on. But if you play it, it's quite enjoyable as you can buy stuff depending on how much money you have won. But if you watch how your knight fights, it's like watching a nice animation video from a video sharing site; the animation of the knight fighting is not bad, as there isn't any blood or cuts. The fight between you and the opponent is a very well elaborated turn-based battle. 0.8 (out of 1).

Graphics: The graphics have been very well done by the developer. He made it in a cartoony way and has not drawn much, yet it's nice. Just with hair, shield, sword, eye and armor he has made them simple yet awesome. The knight's armor, sword and eyes have been very well created and seem kind of real. Also, the potions, powders, font's text and everything else are good. Very appealing graphics. 0.9.

Difficulty: It's not difficult, if these sort of games were, no-one would play them. All you must do is check it once in a while, save progress and if you can, buy new items (especially sword). But it will be difficult if you waste your money on useless stuff, obviously, so try to save up for swords. 0.8.

Sounds: I have to say that this game doesn't have any music or sounds at all... It would be nice if it had peaceful forrest music when you're knight's walking (this game is based in a forrest) and war music when they battle. I would also like it more if it had sound effects when you hit your opponent, but it doesn't, so I have to downrate this section. But, you must also think in the idle way, you're listening to music online or something, but that won't make it much better. 0.1.

Replayability: Its replayability is very high, as players really like to achieve high-scores and the in-game badges too. Once you play it once, it's almost guaranteed that you'll play it yet again and again. It can be repetitive at some points, and you may think at sometime that the prices of sowrds are very overrated, but you just get on with it. But sadly there is one day that you just forget about the game for a long while and you don't play it again... 0.8.

Total rating for this game...: AQfI in general is a very very good game. You'll really enjoy it for a while. If you have ever played Idlekips you'll like this one much more. I'm enjoying this game a lot at the moment and I hope you like it too! My rating: 3.4 out of 5. (average rating of Kongregate as of 27.09.09: 3.26 out of 5)

Epic Week, Day 3: Seed of Destruction

Seed of Destruction is today's epic game. What's more epic than a cowboy riding around on a sperm cell? I give this an 8/10 on the epic scale.

Guide:

Level 1: Just ram some people close to the ground, since that's all there is to attack. (Score 500 points for next level)
Level 2: Make sure you dodge the attacks of the helicopters (I found it best just to ram into them), as well as attack some people below. (Score 6,000 points for next level)
Level 3: Same as before, but now there's jets and army soldiers. To get the jets, get one to follow you, and bust a sudden u-turn to ram him. Make sure you avoid the bazookas in the process of this. (Score 20,000 points for next level)
Level 4: I just hovered around the top-most part and deflected down grenades/missles while defeating airborne enemies. Since you can't destroy tanks from up close, getting them from a distance is the best bet.. (Score 50,000 points for next level)
Level 5: I found it easy just to go off-screen and make the zeppelin hit itself. After destroying a few of those, you'll have the achievement in no time.

Epic Week, Day 2: Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar Guide

Probably the most epic of all games- Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar is the second game of epic week. Although this game is SO easy- here's a guide for it.

Epic Week, Day 1: Ultimate Crab Battle Guide

I'm going to try to make a guide for every game badged on epic week the day that game gets badges. The first contender is Ultimate Crab Battle, a game I would rate 5/10 on the 'epic-scale'.

Enter Traud: Interview with Gevock

Madame, monsieur, bonswa. My name is Traud. This will be my debut on the KCG. I am proud to be a contributing writer to this esteemed establishment. For my debut, I chose to interview Kongregate's own Gevock! I hope you enjoy this Q&A session as much as Gevock and I enjoyed collaborating on it!

Q: To start off, is there anything you’d like to tell us about your online or offline self? Introduce yourself!

Well I'm Gevock. I shoot guns, make flash games that I would never post on here, fly planes on occasion, and I am absorbed by all things chemistry and biology. On Kong I'm just your average stalker, egotist, bigot, etc. I tend to keep to about 4-5 rooms. Oh, and I own manic....MANIC FOR LIFE!!!

What’s your favorite flash game? Why?

I really love too many games to count, but if I had to narrow it down, I'd say anything done by the author Krinn. His flash making skills are godly.

What is a really underrated game here on Kongregate that you would like to share with us?

The Great War of Prefectures (http://www.kongregate.com/games/ZigZaGame/the-great-war-of-prefectures). I fell in love with this game and got addicted straight away. Most people have never heard of it though.

What kind of games, if any, do you play on consoles or handhelds, or even flash, outside of Kongregate?

I've always had a knack for First Person Shooter games and Strategy games. I'll play anything competitive though.

What do you find in a good game?

That spark of originality that only a few people really have. Things like that make a game amazingly awesome

There seems to be a bit of controversy on UPGRADE COMPLETE! It’s near the very top, but some argue that it deserves far less attention because of its focus on, well, upgrading and not as much on actual gameplay. What are your views?

Honestly, go cry in a hole whoever thinks it's not good. Games are meant to be entertaining and fun, not to fit to your criteria of what a game is or isn't.

Which hard badge did you first acquire? Do you remember the particular situation at the time?

Alive Monsters Badge from the game Sonny. I think I got it cause the glitch, but I didn't know any better I WAS JUST A WEE NEWB!

What would you say about the community here at Kongregate?

It's pretty much a solid blend of raving horny preteens who have pics of themselves posing the "myspace" pose or shirtless when they really shouldn't be (flab for the lose), idiots who come on and relieve their frustrations by being...well idiots when they could be having a better time getting to know people, the silent ones that you never (EVER) see talk, and the great people that you may not remember in 20 years but they're still great friends.

Are there any neat, ongoing community activities you’d like to share?

lolwut? I mean we have the random rave party here and there, but that's about it I think. Oh, we also have our mandatory "Express you loving feelings toward sakuya" 15 minutes.

Why do you think the Kongregate administration chose you to become a member of the moderation team?

Cause I didn't think about being a mod, but rather, had fun and made friends.

What are some valuable services you provide to Kongregate?

Psh, Kong provides me with the valuable services (If you know what I mean *cough* AC *cough*)

How did you feel when you first got modded?

Conflicted, I didn't like the constant attention, but I learned to afk when people bug me.

Why did you accept being a mod?

Meh, I figured that since our only mod lived in England and had only been a mod for 2 days, I'd help during the afternoons and evenings.

Okay. So take us through a day in the life of a mod.

"HOW I BE MOD" "MAKE ME MOD NAO" "*SPAM SPAM SPAM*" Then you have your occasional sexy party. That's 'bout it actually.

I’ve noticed from numerous threads in the Kongregate section that many people aspire to become moderators in the future. Any tips?

Just realize that you are better off just having fun and make friends with the people in your room. They might not be mods, but they aren't completely powerless in helpin' you out.

What are your views on personal privacy on this site?

Your privacy? Lol, you really think you can hide your life from me? BWAHAHA I know where you live Traud. And I *will* traud on you.

What’s your favorite movie or series of movies?

Definitely the Die Hard series or the Dirty Harry Series

Do you listen to music? If so, what kind?

Who doesn't listen to music...? I love anything and everything. Give me rap, give me metal, give me classical, give me Aerosmith, hell give me some techno if you think I'll like it.

What do you think of the forums on Kongregate?

Well. I like OT for some of the randomness, but you guys get out of hand quickly. SD, you people scare me from posting. Music: Enough of "This metal is best metal!!1!1!one" threads, they're annoying. Kongregate forum: Meh, it has stuff and fun contests once in a while. Everything else, I don't go to or look at daily.

What other websites do you frequent? Are there any websites or just cool bookmarks you’d like to share with us?

I'll admit I do go to Newgrounds some, but that's just for the animations and tutorial section. As for some of my bookmarks, they may not be appropriate for the younger people reading this.

What are some offline hobbies you have?

Reading, shooting fruit, being a pirate, riding my bike when my car is low on gas, and flying planes when I can.

Are there any pressing, global issues you’d like to raise awareness about?

What is this, my AP Poli Sci class? No, I am too hedonistic to care what is going wrong around me ;)

What’s your favorite fantasy creature (vampire, werewolf, cockatrice, minotaur, etc.)? Why?

Daemonic Faeries. If I say something different, Aerys will murder me.

As a new writer, I'd highly appreciate comments and suggestions! Contact me or Gevock through Kongregate or me through email!
