Challenge 41: Orange Challenge

The latest card challenge has been released here! The new item is another of the universal items that are speculated to be available to all characters. This item makes intercepting even more advantageous, as regaining all energy appears to be quite a nice advantage. Link to the COCAK guide is here.

In other news, everyone is still eagerly awaiting for the Beta to start up, and if anyone knows of any updates on when the Beta is starting please let me know!

RECENT UPDATES: Added Mindreader's Chalice to the Universal Items Set.

Kongai FAQ

Brucecorp, over in the Kongregate forums has posted up a Kongai FAQ post to help compile all information on the card game in one convenient area. Go check it out, and feel free to help contribute to making the FAQ as detailed as possible. Hopefully, with this thread we can cut down on the repeated questions currently relating to everything about Kongai.

Challenge 39: Hexagonal Hexcellence

The latest card challenge has been released here! The latest card is another one of the items that are believed to be universally allowed for every character, however we still do not have a confirmation on this. If anyone has any info on these cards, please post a comment.

The strange thing so far at least, is that this makes the 5th item in this unknown set. Could there be 8 of these universal items?

The link to the COCAK guide is here.

RECENT UPDATES: Added Yellow Rock of Cowards to the "New Cards" set.

Challenge 38: Aquatic Ninja Challenge

The very first of the new characters has been released, and as promised it is a ninja! This character appears to be the one that was previewed earlier here. Amaya marks a new set of cards, so we should be seeing more ninja characters and items in the coming weeks.

Link to the COCAK guide is here. Although it is not a card guide, it should be enough to understand how to get the card.

RECENT UPDATES: Created Ninja Set with AMAYA

BETA now open!

Big news today folks, first off the card game is now officially called Kongai. I personally was always a fan of Kongai, and liked it more then the other options suggested.

Second and more importantly, the BETA sign ups have started! If you click on the card tab located here, and then look under help us test, you will have the option of signing up for the BETA. I can't wait.

Challenge 37: Giving Thanks for Pirates Challenge

The most recent challenge is up! The Insignia is another one of the new items that are speculated to be universally allowed for all characters (thanks Focus). The COCAK guide is up here.

This challenge might seem hard at first, but just putting everything into crew and sitting at the top of the screen is all that is needed to get the card.

Universal Items

Through the ages civilizations have risen swiftly only to fall, leaving the ruined bones of their once great halls as proof of their former glory. However, some few relics were too powerful to fade away with their makers and can now be used by anyone strong enough to tame their power. No one knows where they came from or who may have crafted them, but they stand as the sole, potent symbols of long forgotten cultures. Some say they will still remain long after the stones of this era's greatest monuments have diminished to nothing but dust and ash.

Items:

Promo Cards

These are the Promo Cards that have been released. Two or more item cards can be used in the same battle but only one of a character card can be used. So having two Tafari cards is more just about collecting them all then being able to use two in the same match. Plus the promo cards always look cooler.

Pirates and Robots and Witches, Oh My!

Greg has posted up some interesting info in the forums. Apparently not only will be be seeing new cards and sets soon, but there will also be a character added to each of the old sets. The picture on the left is of the "exiled ninja dude".

I have a question however, if ninjas are one of the new sets, then what is the current ninja card set actually called?

Challenge number 32: Revival of the Fittest

The final challenge of the original cards is here at last! The COCAK guide for getting the flash powder card is found here. Flash powder gives a slightly worse version of Rumiko's ability to the equipped character, which could be rather annoying. One question I would like answered is whether this item will stack with Rumiko's ability?

RECENT UPDATES: Added Flash Powder to ninja set

Challenge 31: Speed of Gravity

The latest card challenge has been posted up. For completing the easy levels on Fold you can earn the Jade Statue card on the right. While I'm not sure exactly who has access to life draining attacks yet, I will guess that this item is good agaisnt the vampires. ;) The COCAK guide is posted up HERE. Only one more card left!

Recent Updates: Added Jade Statue to Ninja Set.

Challenge # 30: Finish the Preorder Payment Challenge

The latest card challenge has been released, go play for the newest card here. This challenge seemed to take longer then previous challenges, but makes up for that with the ability to save the game. The card you earn is Marquis Le Morte, which besides having a cool name is the last of the vampire characters. If you remember from a while back, this was the character that restores his health whenever he switches out! This could prove to be a very strong card indeed, so go start making your pizzas to earn him. Only two more cards left!

Link to the COCAK guide here.

Recent Updates: Marquis added to vampire set, vampire st now complete.

Interface Redesigns

Greg posted up a potential redesign of the interface in the forums here. You can go discuss what you think of the new look, but I personally like it a lot.

One thing I would like to see is numbers in the bars however, specifics are important. Still the interface is clearly showing some big improvements, I can't wait to see the final result!

The latest challenge is out, and COCAK has posted up a guide here. The new card is the first released item of the ninja set. Caltrops punishes switching out, and could prove to be a very useful item indeed. Only 4 more cards left!

Card Game Release Date

emily_greer posted up some info on when we should expect the card game on the Kongregate forums:

Hi guys,

Everybody keeps asking about this, and I know a lot of you expect that it’s going to be very soon. And it is going to be soon, just not next week.

Right now we think widespread official testing by invite will probably start mid-October, with the official release a month or two after that depending on how work & testing go.

Why so long? Well, it’s an awesome but complicated game, and we want to make sure it’s great before we release. The game is playable and fun now, but we’re polishing animation and UI, working on a tool to build and edit decks, a lobby, stats tracking, ranking and matching systems, starter deck, lobby chat, and match chat. And that’s not even counting some things we’d like to get in for the release, like tournaments and ways to challenge people to a match on and off the site. Nor is it counting the testing we need to do to make sure it can handle a ton of people playing simultaneously.

So be patient with us! We bit off more than we realized with this game, but it will be done or BUST. I’ll update this thread as we know more.

Cool, I cant wait! I am also very happy that instead of rushing something out the door, the Kong staff is taking their time to improve the quality of the card game. I have a feeling it will be worth the wait. :)

Challenge # 27: Overcoming Globophobia

The challenge for the last of the vampire set items is here. By completing 30 rounds of Bloons Tower Defense you can earn the Necronomic Tome! I found the best thing to do was to simply spam the first tower, the other towers were completely unnecessary.

Link to COCAK guide HERE.

Recent Updates: Added Necronomic Tome to Vampire Set.

Help find a good name!

Over in the forum there is a thread that is looking to put a name on the Kongregate Card Game.

The two given options are:

“Kardinal”

or

“Dark Switch”

Ick! The thread is open for anyone to post suggestions for the name, so please do. While I would rather have a different name then either of these options, my initial preference was for Dark Switch. After thinking about it for a little longer, I realized the name had nothing to do with kongregate, and I think like the original rumored name "Kongai" the new name should start with a "K". Just not Kardinal please, that name is too religious, and has nothing to do with the game.

Two Tafari

I asked Sirlin about the issue with having two Tafari cards in a deck and got this response.

r3p3nt: I’m aware of the debate. You are absolutely not intended to have two versions of Tafari in a deck. Promo cards should have same gameplay, different art for collectability, but only one of a character per deck. If the two versions of Tafari had different gameplay at PAX, that’s only because we’re in the middle of balancing him to make him more in line with the rest of the characters.

–Sirlin

Looks like we won't have to worry about two Tafaris after all! :)

Challenge #26: 300

COCAK has posted another brief guide to the challenge here. I personally found that getting a mage with max chain and damage was pretty important. In addition it seems better to have your army not in the middle but off to one of the sides. You can check this thread for more strategies.

Enjoy the new card, only 6 more left.

RECENT UPDATES: Added Cornelius card to vampire set.

On PAX Cards and Multiple Tafari

Hello everyone, mrhthepie from the Kongregate forums has posted up a topic about the PAX cards here. In his post a point about having multiple Tafari's was brought up. I have posted on this issue within the forums, however would like to add my input here as well.

With regards to the PAX version of Tafari and the regular version being used in the same deck - this is a horrible, horrible idea! In a competitive game there should be no bonuses for receiving limited edition or "special" cards other then their own cool factor and uniqueness. To draw a comparison with Magic: The Gathering; if having a special edition of a card allowed for having the special version and the original card in the deck, I would imagine the Magic competitive scene would fall apart. MTG and other card games treat any promo or special cards as effectively regular versions of the cards, just as they should!

In fact I would go so far as to say that having this PAX version be used in addition to the regular Tafari would be going against some of the core ideas that Sirlin had when he envisioned the game.

"These cards are functionaly equivalent for gameplay, but they allow collectors to have something cool to collect (namely the limited edition black bordered cards)."

Disagree? Please tell me why. I feel that even if having two Tafaris is not overpowered it is still an advantage given to PAX attendees.

Actual Game Footage Video!

This is the first video of actual game footage from the Kongregate Collectible Card Game! You can find the video and a writeup of the card game here. Although the footage quality isn't the best, you can still make out most of the action. In addition the video shows one of the characters that is still not yet released. He apparently has the ability to restore his health whenever he switches out. Anyway, go check out the video!

New Card Button

You might have seen this new button on Kongregate.

This button links to a new page with more information on the Kongregate Collectible Card Game. It contains essentially 5 important things. The first, is a nifty new screenshot.
In addition there are is a little "about the game" section with a brief overview of how the game plays, a link to learn the rules of the game, the weekly card, and a place for PAX attendees to redeem a special edition PAX card.

This one! :)

Challenge #24: Deflector Protector

COCAK has posted up another guide to getting the most recent card. However I found another potential path to getting the card while playing. I had been saving my money and putting all bonus points into interest. I would save the game after every round, but eventually died from not having any upgrades. I then found out that after reloading the score is reset to zero. :( This was a minor issue Ihowever, as it becomes incredibly easy to gain points in later levels. After continuing on I easily managed to defeat the challenge even though I had been spending almost no money and died another time. Eventually due to high interest and frugal spending I was able to generate huge amounts of money and easily clear levels in seconds. Anyway the important lesson is that if you do die, you do not necessarily have to start over on a new game. Merely load up from where you died and try the level again.

Tiki Villagers

The world is an old place, and it is within the deep island jungles that the oldest and darkest of its secrets are tended. A tribe of hunters and lorekeepers has protected the wisdom of the earth since its creation, fighting tirelessly against the modern world that claws at their sanctuary. But progress, like water, wears on even the most powerful of structures. It is a battle the tribe is losing. With a solemn decree and a savage war cry, the tribe decided to leave the shelter of their island and take the fight to the bright, plastic world encroaching on their solitude.

Before leaving, the wisest of them, knowing that the strength that was theirs inside the forest would fade as they left its borders, fashioned totems and weapons from the spirit of the jungle. Even the youngest of them knew what a sacrifice the island had made in giving these objects of power to the villagers. It would be defenseless until their return.

The old world had declared war on the new.

Amazons

Amazon women were a force to be feared in ancient Greece, female warriors who stood toe to toe with their male enemies and slaughtered them without mercy. Though their kingdom has greatly diminished as civilization bred the savagery from their culture, the land of Amazonia still burns with the unrealized ambitions of their ancient grandmothers. A new generation has come to power, one not content to rule what land has been left them by years of polite wars and table politics. These women armed themselves in their ancient armor and brutally killed the first foreign ambassador who came to their court.

They plundered the old treasuries and museums, searching for weapons that would strengthen them for battle. Only five of the True Relics their ancestors had used still held power, but they were more than enough to push the warrior women toward victory.

The Amazons once again went to war.
